- Translators have always argued over whether to follow the words or the sense. Each round shows a passage of the original and three English versions of it.
- Word for word follows the original closely, even when the English is stiff. Published is a translation printed in the 1800s or early 1900s. Plain English today is Hearth Library’s own translation.
- Give each version its label, then press Check. One point for each label in the right place.
- Choose a language and a source above to focus on one text.
Clues: word-for-word versions keep the original’s order and odd phrasing; older translations use thee, thou and long sentences.
Every round comes from a real text in Hearth Library, with the library’s own translation. The numbers beside each language are how many rounds it has.
