The free version on itch.io is the original 2D game, for the browser and Windows. The 3D game on Steam is a full remake and plays differently.
About the game
Guests book a stay, ride your rocket to orbit, spend a few nights and pay. You handle everything in between: the launch, the life support, the room service and the ride home. You own the spaceport, the rockets and the rooms.
Start with one company, one launch pad and a home site in Florida or at Tanegashima. Grow from a single module in low orbit to hotels around the Moon, Mars and Saturn, at your own pace: pause, speed up, or just watch.
- One continuous view from the launch pad to the whole solar system, at one-tenth scale, with real launch sites and day and night set by the real Sun.
- Every booking flies on a rocket you can see stacked, fuelled and launched, from a small two-seater up to heavy lifters and a spaceplane.
- Build out from one module into corridors, wings, a docking hub and a spinning gravity ring, and look inside any hull in X-ray.
- Gyms, labs, observatories, lounges with a view of Earth, a spa, a galley and a greenhouse.
- Guests of different kinds, with their own tastes and reviews; crew who need rest, food and company.
- Oxygen, water, food and power to keep flowing. Run short and guests are evacuated and money is lost, but no one dies.
One seamless zoom
The camera never cuts. Start on a rocket standing on the pad, pull back to the whole globe, keep going out to the entire solar system, then dive back in to rendezvous and dock with your hotel.
The solar system is built at one-tenth real size, with real launch sites, and day and night follow the real Sun. Low orbit really is up there, and Saturn really is far away.
Launch day
Every booking gets its own rocket. It is stacked in your assembly hall, rolls out to the pad and gets fuelled while your guests ride a van out to the tower and take the elevator up to the capsule. Then the countdown, and liftoff over the coast.
Watch the whole flight or let it run in the background. Research takes your fleet from a small two-seat craft to heavy lifters and a spaceplane.
Hotels you can look inside
Hotels are built from modules that dock together: start with one, then add corridors, wings, a docking hub and a gravity ring. Zoom in and the hull turns to X-ray, so you can see the rooms and the people in them.
Fit them out with gyms, labs and observatories, lounges with a view of Earth, a spa, a galley and a greenhouse. In zero gravity your guests float; on a gravity ring they walk; on the Moon they bounce.
Guests and crew
Guests come in different types, with their own tastes, and they leave reviews. Crew need rest, food and company to keep working.
The people are deliberately simple: cute rubber-hose “noodle” figures, crew in role colors and guests in their own outfits, from sun hats and cameras to VIP top hats.
Keep everyone breathing
Every hotel uses oxygen, water, food and power. Greenhouses and recyclers close part of the loop, and supply rockets fill the rest. If something runs out, guests are distressed, then evacuated, and you lose the income, but no one dies. Your other hotels keep running while you sort it out.
Space Hotel Ltd began as a 2D management game. The floating glass interface, bookings and reviews, life support, contracts and the R&D schematics tree all carry over into the remake, and every model you see is generated in code: planets, stations, rockets and people alike.
Grow the company
Contracts and satellite launches pay for expansion; research unlocks bigger rockets. The spaceport grows too, with a second pad, Mission Control and a rocket assembly hall. Then on to higher orbit, the Moon, Mars and beyond.
